When it comes to making serious cash in the sneaker resale game, you can be sure that a collaboration between a popular clothing brand, entertainer, and/or artist and a sneaker company will be a hot ticket item. But what about a collaboration between Nike SB and Jordan Brand? One only needs to look to skate legends Lance Mountain and Eric Koston’s collaborations with Nike SB and Jordan to see that these rare partnerships are in a category of their own.

With that being said, the new Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 “Pine Green” has the makings of being one of the year’s most desirable and profitable sneakers in the resale world.

Since 2014, Nike SB and Jordan have come together to celebrate the cultures of skateboarding and basketball by releasing Air Jordans that could perform in the halfpipe as well as they could on the hardwood. It began with Lance Mountain’s collaborative Air Jordan 1 High OG colorways, and continued on prominently with Eric Koston’s Air Jordan 1 “LA to Chicago” and Air Jordan 1 Low “UNC” styles. Now, the Jordan 4 “Pine Green” is latest collaborative effort between Nike SB and Jordan, a partnership that began in an unofficial capacity as far back as the 1980s when pro skaters like Mountain, along with Mark Gonzales, Tony Hawk, and so many others wore Nike Dunks and Air Jordan 1s while skateboarding.

What makes the Jordan 4 “Pine Green” so appealing? It’s all in the details, however subtle they may be. Disguised as any other Jordan 4 colorway, the “Pine Green” actually features design modifications that allow it to perform comfortably as both a skate and basketball shoe. The colorway’s shape has been modified as such to reflect the original look of the Jordan 4 from 1989. Next, the shoe’s “wings” or eyelet panels have been updated via a rubber compound that should withstand the rigors of contact with griptape. The tongue has also been updated with more padding, a move that Nike SB pulled off quite well with the SB Dunk.

There are more changes from there. The shape of the forefoot has been slimmed down and has had its Air cushioning unit removed in an effort to give skaters better board feel. More obviously, the “Pine Green” Jordan 4 features “Nike SB” branding on the heel, a change from the shoe’s OG “Nike Air” detailing.

It can be hard to make a collaboration stand out in today’s world of sneakers. But once again, Nike SB and Jordan Brand have proven they have the formula to do so down pat. Tap into what makes each brand unique, modify a design or two, and let the shoe’s design tell the story from there. Check, check, and check for the “Pine Green.”
