For the next installment of our Collaborators You Need to Know feature (this is number four so far in the series, if you’re keeping track at home), we will be focusing on JJJJound, the Montreal based design studio and clothing brand headed up by Justin Saunders, who has seemingly worked with every major sneaker brand on the planet over the last few years.
Before we get into JJJJound’s many great collaborations, let’s start off by talking about what the brand is exactly about, because there may be some confusion as to what JJJJound actually is. Yes, JJJJound is a clothing brand. And it’s also a digital mood board. And a collaborative design studio that, according to the brand itself, “Aims to inspire through multiple channels; through fabrication of items with purpose and longevity.” In other words, JJJJound likes to create thoughtful products that withstand the test of time. And that couldn’t be more obvious when you consider JJJJound’s signature minimalism aesthetic.

Now that we know what JJJJound is, let’s get into what the brand has done in the footwear world for the purpose of today’s post.
JJJJound launched its debut sneaker collaboration in 2016 with Victory Sportswear. The release was a way for JJJJound to get its feet wet in the footwear space before going on to work on projects with Vans in 2017, New Balance in 2018, and Reebok in 2019. Since then, JJJJound has become a regular collaborator with each company.

In 2020, JJJJound and New Balance teamed up to create several earth tone colorways of the New Balance 992. It went on to release a neutral-based Reebok Classic Nylon colorway in 2020, as well. Also in 2020, JJJJound and Reebok teamed up for yet another collaboration, this time on the Club C 85.
Some of JJJJound’s most recognizable and impactful collaborations are its most recent, which includes the New Balance 990v4 and New Balance 990v3, and the BAPE Bape Sta. The Montreal based company’s collaboration with ASICS on the Gel-Kayano 14 in 2022 is seen as one of the sneakers central to the rise of the Y2K-style trend that’s been sweeping through sneaker culture over the past two years.
All in all, JJJJound’s impact on sneaker culture, and culture as a whole, has been remarkable in such a short period of time. The brand’s ascension from social media mood board to legitimate design studio has been nothing short of inspiring, and that’s evident with each new release co-created by JJJJound each year.
