What’s old always seems to be what’s fresh and new in sneakers. We could fill up what could amount to a month’s worth of blog posts with one example after another of how retro shoes like the adidas Samba and New Balance 2002R have come back in a big way in the last few years to be among the most popular and influential sneakers in the game. But instead, we’ll dedicate today’s entry to the recent rise in popularity of retro basketball shoes from the 1980s and 1990s as the NBA preseason gets underway this week.

It’s been a somewhat slow yet steady reemergence over the past year or so for these old school models from the glory days of Nike’s late ‘80s and early-to-mid ‘90s basketball catalog, but we’re most definitely here for the newfound appreciation that sneakers like the Nike Air Max CB 94 OG and the Nike Air Penny 1 have been getting lately. Our Consignor Partners should also most definitely be here for the appreciation, because sneakers like Charles Barkley’s aforementioned Air Max CB34 OG are currently selling in the $230-plus price range on our website.

Retro-basketball-inspired models like the new adidas Crazy Infinity are also hot right now.

Collaborators have also jumped on the retro basketball bandwagon. Billie Eilish recently released two Nike Air Alpha Force 88 collaborations. Before that, Social Status co-designed a few different Air Max Penny 1 and 2 colorways. Stussy also released its own take on the Penny 2 in three colorways (each of which we only have a few sizes left in stock). Then there’s Scottie Pippen’s Nike Air More Uptempo, which has been featured in collaborations with Ambush in recent months.

All this to say, if you currently or will soon have pairs of any retro basketball sneakers from the ‘80s and ‘90s (including Air Jordans, of course), bring them in ASAP for quick sales!
